2 Years in Comics. Now what?

I wish I could say I’ve done everything I set out to do two years ago. I did more than what some people expected from me, so that’s a good feeling. I’ve made 3 full comic books sold in various stores, ran 2 successful Kickstarters despite not knowing how to prior (and getting COVID 19 during the last one), and had a head editor of Valiant comics be genuinely impressed by the comics I wrote.

However, I still feel like I haven’t accomplished as much as I set out to do. I can’t even say it’s impostor syndrome because I could still do more. I know part of it has to do with the global pandemic causing the whole world to slow to a crawl for a while, but it also feels like I’ve been slacking, too.

This is not supposed to be a sad post. I’ll save that one for later. This post is just me reminiscing that past two years since I started to make the move towards being a comic book creator. I have done things, and I have worked hard on them to make the best damn comic books I can. I do not plan to stop that anytime soon either!

In fact, the next two issues of Sidekick For Hire are being worked on now. Along with something extra I am working on, I hope to finish by the end of the summer. I won’t exactly announce what it is until I’m a bit further along, but it’s new and exciting (for me, at least).

While I reminisce on the past two years, I also think of all the wonderful people I’ve met in this incredibly supportive industry. Both in-person and digitally. I realize that the comic book industry is more than just a place for people to tell stories, but it’s a real community, and it will be a very long time before I quit this community.

Be on the look out on my social media sites for announcements of projects and appearances over the next few months!

With love towards you and comic books,

Kristian Herrera
